was wearing a pair of Stan Smith's tennis shoes, huffing and puffing on a Saturday morning with my allowance burning a fresh hole in my pocket. I had run downtown from West Salem, to Downtown Salem Oregon. Every week, I would run Downtown with my $2 and buy candy, Hot Wheels or a fishing lure.....I was 9.

If I didn't run, I would...

be a UFC fighter, just because I don't know how to deal with myself without running. I am like a dog that needs to be walked.

What is your motivation?

I don't have a motivation to run, I run. For me running is how I sort things out in life, it's how I deal with set backs, victories. In 2009 I was still dealing with my Dad passing away in the fall of 2008, I sorted that out with my Dad, between mile 82 and 100 in the middle of the night running a hunderd, just me, the dark, the trail, pain.....and my Dad -- we are square now.

Hot or cold weather runner?

Hot.

How often do you race?

I run races. I don't race often, maybe once every couple of years. When I come to race -- I race hard. in 2007 I finished 4th in the USATF 100K Mountain Championships, in 2005 I won Peterson Ridge 60K for Masters, set a course record. When I was a little younger, I ran 31:07 for 10K -- and got lapped by the University of Oregon boyz....I am thinking about racing Pewterman this fall here in Cedar Rapids, if I decide train for it and to race...pack a lunch.

all time in training.
4 times, in a day just last year.

I ran a single one hard once, ran 2:42.

I am thinking about downsizing, 5K's and stuff.

My wife and daughters, nothing brings more joy.

I run alone, 99.9% of the time

Race you'd like to forget

Miwok 100K, like in 2006. Other than having beer and pizza at mile 52, it was the worse race of my life.
