The 2008 Alliant Energy Fifth Season 8K Run, 5K Run/Walk, Youth Mile Run and Kids’ Run has something to offer for everyone. The event is for both runners and walkers. It is both a hometown race with emphasis on family fun and a premier regional event attracting top runners from all over the country. Enjoy the 2008 Fifth (rescheduled).

8K RUN  Course Map
The 23rd Annual Alliant Energy Fifth Season 8K is THE Fourth of July event (rescheduled from July 4 to September 1) for competitive road racing in the Midwest. The race is a certified USA Track & Field 8K Run. It was ranked 3rd among women and 5th among men in 8K runs in the nation (American Road Racing Statistics, 2007).

The start and finish will be at Green Square Park. The scenic and rolling course takes runners through the historic Wellington Heights and Bever Park neighborhoods of southeast Cedar Rapids. The course features an out-and-back segment on Grande Avenue allowing participants to view the lead runners as they make their way past the turnaround point. Runners then wind their way back downtown on 2nd Avenue to a straight-a-way downhill finish.

Participants receive a Brooks brand moisture management shirt valued at $20, course entertainment, and fabulous post-race party.

PRIZE MONEY (Subject to Change)
$11,600 in prize money will be awarded to the top twenty male and female overall finishers in the 8K race.

$1,000 in prize money will be awarded to the top three master male and female runners to finish the 8K race. 1st - $250, 2nd - $150, 3rd - $100.

$1,000 in prize money will be awarded to the top three State of Iowa male and female runners to finish the 8K race. 1st - $250, 2nd - $150, 3rd - $100.

$1,000 in prize money will be awarded to the top three Linn County male and female runners to finish the 8K race. 1st - $250, 2nd - $150, 3rd - $100.

Prize money will be awarded according to USA Track & Field rules. Overall top twenty finishers are eligible for master, state or county prize money. Top three master finishers are eligible for state or county prize money. Linn County residents are not eligible to receive State of Iowa prize money. Finisher must be a United States citizen to be eligible for state or county prize money. Master finisher is age 40 and over. No prize money is awarded for the 5K Fun Run/Walk.

High School and NCAA athletes are ineligible to receive prize money. Overall prize money will be forfeited. The next eligible finisher will receive State of Iowa or Linn County finisher prize money.

State and county prize money winners ONLY: race officials will contact you and ask to send proof of residency (current driver license, utility bill, or phone bill) within one week following the race before award money is distributed.

AGE DIVISION AWARDS
Awards for men and women age divisions in the 8K race are as follows:
15 & under (3) 16-19 (5) 20-24 (8) 25-29 (10) 30-34 (10) 35-39 (12)
40-44 (12) 45-49 (12) 50-54 (10) 55-59 (8) 60-64 (5) 65-69 (3) 70 & over (2)

All overall top twenty finishers and top three master finishers are ineligible for age division awards in the 8k race.

5K FUN RUN/WALK  Course Map
The Alliant Energy Fifth Season 5K Fun Run/Walk is a non-competitive event giving you the chance to get out with friends, stretch your legs, and enjoy an Iowa morning. Participants in the 5K Fun Run/Walk will share the course with the 8K runners winding their way back downtown for a finish alongside the runners. Participants receive a Brooks brand moisture management shirt valued at $20, course entertainment, and fabulous post-race party.

YOUTH MILE RUN   Course Map
The Alliant Energy Fifth Season Youth Mile Run for kids ages 9-14 begins at 9 a.m., at Green Square Park, 3rd Avenue and 5th Street SE. The youth mile run is underwritten by RPC Inc. Charitable Foundation of Iowa City. No race day registration!! The staggered group start will begin with the girls followed by the boys. All kids will be timed and receive a mile medal for finishing. Trophies for boys and girls age divisions in the youth mile race are as follows:

KIDS' FUN RUN  Course Map
The Alliant Energy Fifth Season Kids' Fun Run for kids ages 8 and under begins at 9:30 a.m., at Green Square Park, 3rd Avenue and 5th Street SE. The kids’ fun run is underwritten by KCRG TV-9 & Show You Care Sponsors. No race day registration!! The staggered age group start begins with the youngest age division: kids 5 and under run 200 yards and kids 6-8 run a quarter mile. All kids receive a ribbon for finishing. Parents may run with their children and strollers are welcome! Sorry, no pets allowed. Stay and walk in KCRG’s Kids’ Parade at 10 a.m.

FIFTH SEASON EXPO - REGISTRATION AND PACKET PICKUP
Fifth Season Expo – Registration and Packet Pickup will be held at the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons Hotel, 350 1st Avenue NE, on August 31st from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Packet pickup only on September 1st from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION!! Shirts and numbers for all entrants can be picked up at these times. Merchandise vendors will be on site. Youth Mile Run and Kids’ Fun Run participants sign up at packet pickup for the random prize drawings. The drawing for gift certificates for bikes will occur at the start of both the youth mile run and kids’ fun run.

POST-RACE PARTY
After the race, let the celebration begin at our post-race parties at Green Square Park!! Enjoy plenty of food, drink, music and family fun. Adults (registered entrants, sponsors and volunteers age 21+ only) enjoy the hospitality of the Cedar Rapids Jaycees and refreshments provided by Fleck Sales-Miller Lite. Complimentary massages are available. Our fabulous Fifth Season awards ceremony begins at Green Square Park at 10:30 a.m. In the event of bad weather, the awards ceremony will be held at Crowne Plaza Five Season Hotel.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Fifth Season Race relies on Brightroom for the very best in sports photography. Road running to multi-sport, the most prestigious events in the world rely on Brightroom to photograph their participants and provide the highest quality products and services. Brightroom's team of professional photographers enables them to cover events of all sizes. Check back after the race to see all of the action, review your individual race photos and place an order. Please be sure your bib number is visible all times during the event.
Brightroom will be donating all proceeds to the American Red Cross: Grant Wood Area Chapter in response to flooding across the state.

Crowne Plaza Five Seasons Hotel is the host hotel. Reservations can be made by calling the hotel directly at 319-363-3181.

RESULTS
Race results will be posted at the race, and will also be available within 24 hours after the race at www.cvra.net/results and at www.gazetteonline.com. Complete race results will be printed in the September 2nd edition of The Gazette.

DONATIONS
The Cedar Valley Running Association and Fifth Season Race have pledged $5,000 to the local American Red Cross-Flood Victims Fund to assist flood victims in the local area. Please consider a donation by writing a separate check payable to American Red Cross-Flood Victims Fund with your race entry. We will remit those donations to American Red Cross as quickly as possible.

The race will contribute a percentage of its total revenues (in addition to specific monies raised) to the support the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, where compassionate, professional end-of-life care is provided for those in need in our area. Please join us in raising funds by considering a donation to the Hospice House. You may make a donation by writing a separate check to Mercy Hospice House with your race entry, or download a Contribution Form and record sponsorships from family and friends. We will remit those donations as quickly as possible. Over $13,000 in cash and in-kind donations was raised by entrants and sponsors in 2006 and 2007.
